FK8 sets new record at the Suzuka Circuit
Honda’s wildest Type-R ever – 2 mins 23.993 secs lap record for a front-wheel-drive car.
Known for its challenging corners and high-speed chicanes, the Suzuka Circuit is not only a test-track for Honda’s R&D department, but it’s also known as being one of the oldest Formula One World Championship, with a long history of races. It was built on Soichiro’s Honda demand, as he stated that “Automobiles cannot be improved if they are not put through their paces on the racing circuit.”
The Limited Edition FK8 pushes the boundaries of front-wheel drive capabilities, slotted to be the most potent factory Type R of our time. Even though the specs remain unchanged – 306 HP, 2.0-liter turbo I4 engine, the car balances this cocktail with lightweight components, suspension, and steering upgrades and a stripped-back, all that for a driver-focused interior.
Only 1,000 pieces to be produced, all exclusively in Pheonix Yellow, from which 600 are exclusively reserved for the US.
That being said, this new Limited Edition FK8 is not something to be taken lightly, proving once again that Honda has pushed boundaries in terms of what’s possible from a front-wheel drive, on one of the most demanding tracks in motorsport.
The 2 m 23.993 s lap time was settled by Super GT Series driver Takuya Izawa, during the Type R’s final performance tests in February. Enjoy it below!
